The shortest day of the year

It's been a week since the Winter Solstice, but you'll have to excuse the late post as I was in the homeland last week and my mother still has dial-up. Since I wrote about the longest day of the year back in June and chronicled my activities on that day, I thought I would do the same on the Winter Solstice and see how they compared.

Well, for starters... the sun was out! It was a gorgeous bright blue sky that I woke up to, but unfortunately, not at the same time as the sun. I slept in a bit, but who could blame me? It was COLD! Six degrees, to be exact. But I do feel that I was able to enjoy the outdoors a lot more on the shortest day than I was on the longest day. Even though I wasn't out in the cold, I was still able to appreciate the sun and didn't feel deprived of it like I did in June. Here's how things shook out:

7:21 am - Sunrise. Sleeping in my toasty warm flannel sheets

8:21 am - Eating toast and looking out at the sunny, but 10 degree weather
9:21 am - Practicing yoga with my mom's class, enjoying the view of the sun on the homeland mountains

10:21 am - Relaxing in savasana, while trying to quiet my mind (it never works)

11:21 am - En route to my father's house for some Christmas shopping

12:21 pm - Wandering the aisles of Target, finding last minute gifts

1:21 pm - Enjoying a yummy Panera lunch with Dad, Nan, and David

2:21 pm - Probably getting another gutter ball while bowling with Dad and David
3:31 pm - Trying to obtain as much Vitamin D as possible by walking around Dad's block

4:21 pm - Sunset already? Home with mom and David, hunkering down for another cold night

A whole seven hours difference in entries seems insane to me, but I guess it explains the Seasonal Affective Disorder I feel every winter. The sunshine helped me feel cheerier on the Winter Solstice, but I just needed more hours of it! Until I retire and become a snow bird, I guess I will just admit that serotonin has declared me its bitch...
