Under construction

Spike's mom had great friends. They all got together years ago and had a gingerbread competition. The friends are still great, the gingerbread competition is being resurrected this year, and we are going to win. Construction began last weekend in the homeland. We made Rice Krispy Treats as our base and molded them into a rectangle-ish shape. We came back home and affixed pretzel rods to the sides to create a log cabin. This was tricky as we had to use gravity as our friend and not our enemy (as someone who falls down a lot, this was an especially difficult concept). We would do one side at a time, letting the frosting dry in between each application. However, sometimes we got a little too anxious and didn't wait long enough. Gravity ended up being our enemy after all (I wasn't too surprised). Then came the roof. Cinnamon Toast Crunch affixed to graham crackers. It wasn't so difficult getting them to stay, but putting the roof on top of the house was a bit trickier. As was moving them around once I realized I wanted the roof to hang over the porch. I was like the decorator on HGTV who always pisses off the contractors. Poor Spike.Once we filled in the eaves, it was time for the porch. The porch is essential on a log cabin as you need something to hold the Adirondack chairs. I made the porch while Spike was still at work. Then I made 10 pine trees. Then I started the ADK chairs. Then I made a snowman. Then I added some trim. By the time Spike came home, I was ready to quit, but he was just getting started. We added trim to the roof, put on the door, added windows and shrubbery, and I had a nervous breakdown. The competition is tomorrow. We have until 4 pm to perfect our masterpiece. I don't want to sound cocky, but I smell victory. Do you? We want to make Rosemary proud... and beat her friends to a pulp!
