Now it's 2009

So Christmas came and went and New Years came and went and now it's the middle of January and Spring seems so far away! I was spoiled by good weather over the Christmas break, but now it's just brutal. We had a snow storm on Saturday night, there's more forecast for tonight and the high on Friday is going to be 16.... gross.

Christmas break started for me on the Sunday morning before Christmas, when my mother, sister, and I braved a snow storm to make it to the homeland in time for church. We were scheduled to light the advent wreath and we did a good job, if I do say so myself (I got to lead the prayer... let us pray). Homeland was wonderful and full of gingerbread house making, Christmas caroling, shopping, Man of Kent eating, and other fabulous things.

We left for Florida on Christmas Day and enjoyed a short flight to a warmer climate. After traveling across the state, we boarded the Carnival Sensation and departed for the Bahamas. The cruise was great and the weather was gorgeous. We mini-golfed, swam, water slid, gambled, played charades, watched shows, drank, and ate our faces off. A wonderful time was had by all. Once in Nassau, we took a tour of the island, including trips down one way streets and some other scary moments, and then went to the Atlantis Resort and the beach. After jumping in the waves for awhile, we headed back to the ship for dinner and drinks. The Lance Kids later were let loose on the streets of Nassau for some late night adventures...

When we arrived back in the US, we headed to New Smyrna Beach, Florida for some more fun in the sun. We explored a wildlife refuge and saw many birds, gators, and even some manatees! The next few days were spent lounging by the pool, walking on the beach, taking a river cruise, kayaking with dolphins, and enjoying the gorgeous weather! My mom convinced us that it would be a great idea to rent a crazy bicycle contraption to ride on the beach... pedaling in the sand is a lot of work, but we still had a great time!
We came back in the middle of a snow storm on New Year's Eve and it seems it hasn't stopped since. There was snow when I got back to Boston and there was another storm this past weekend. I'm trying to be a strong New England woman, but I hope I can make it till Spring...
