Oh man... do I love mashed potatoes. I love Thanksgiving for stuffing and green bean casserole too, but it's mostly the mashed potatoes. Yummy! I dream about eating my weight in potatoes for weeks leading up to the big holiday. Last year, we were on a cruise in Hawaii for Thanksgiving and mashed potatoes weren't on the menu! I couldn't believe it, so we asked the waiter and he said they had some in the kitchen "for the kids." Total bunk. I told them that I was a kid and that I wanted potatoes NOW! This is me eating them with rapturous joy!
Anyway, this Thanksgiving, the mashed potatoes did not disappoint. It was a big year as my mother and father celebrated the holiday together for the first time since their divorce. We all went up to Schroon Lake to Aunt Sue and Uncle George's new camp. The weekend started with David and his girlfriend, Ashley, coming to Boston to pick me up on Tuesday night.

The poor dears had to brave rain and wind on their journey, but I rewarded them with burritos and french fries and an abbreviated tour of Boston. The homeland was filled with magical splendor, as usual.... we ate at the Pizza Hut lunch buffet, saw Bolt, sang with a praise band at the Thanksgiving service at church, and had a fire in the pit on the deck.
Thanksgiving day itself, I arose early to start watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade only to find that that the damn thing didn't start until 9 am! Don't they know that people have to start cooking at that time? So inconsiderate! I had to rush back and forth during commercials while I made my signature Bloody Marys and green bean casserole and I could only watch it for an hour as we had to be at Schroon by noon. I saw the important parts... the Broadway shows and the Rockettes, so I guess I can't complain.

Aunt Sue and Uncle George did a fabulous job hosting dinner and I really did eat my weight in mashed potatoes. We had a wonderful dinner, which was followed by wonderful canoeing, and wonderful dessert. Mom and I drove the two hours home in time to watch my other favorite Thanksgiving tradition, Charlie Brown's Thanksgiving. I tried not to fall asleep on the sofa as I watched Peppermint Patty be a total bitch to my boy, Chuck.
The rest of the weekend was also awesome, Mom and I made

gingerbread cookies, which we made into ice cream sandwiches, we took walks on the land, we cut down a Christmas tree for me to take back to Boston, we painted the front porch, went to the Man of Kent, and decorated the entire house for Christmas! I also watched some of the Holiday Hockey Tournament at RPI and got my picture taken with PUCKMAN! A lifelong dream fulfilled! I wonder if he likes mashed potatoes...
