It has been raining for four days straight. My mood is not so chipper as a result and so I'm remembering our fabulous trip to Long Island a few weekends ago to brighten my day. My dear friend, Sarno, was getting married and so Spike and I traveled down to the end of Connecticut to take the ferry across Long Island Sound to the end of Long Island. I have a thing for ferries and so I was super excited to be able to travel by boat instead of having to deal with all the driving that would have been involved otherwise. We made reservations for the 11am ferry, but due to my insane need to be early for everything, as well as my wonderful driving skills, we ended up passing the time with this:
It was called the "Porker" and Spike ordered it after some prompting from the short order chef at Kamp Dog, a place I had found online that is known for their breakfast sandwiches. It featured ham, bacon, and sausage on top of eggs, cheese, and a bulkie roll and received rave reviews. Mine was also delicious, although lacking any of the pork products. We ended up being early enough to catch the 10am ferry and were the second to last on. There's no better feeling than making the ferry! We enjoyed a beautifully scenic trip across the Sound and were able to relax and digest throughout the journey.
While I knew that the North Forks area of Long Island featured some pretty impressive wineries, I didn't know if we would have time to sample them. Well, the early ferry allowed us plenty of time to stop at a few on the way to our hotel. We enjoyed tasting flights in the beautiful sunshine, surrounded by lush vineyards and gorgeous greenery at three different wineries. Not a bad way to spend an afternoon!
The wonderful day was made complete by a wonderful wedding. The ceremony was held outside, overlooking a vineyard, where we enjoyed clear skies and the perfect temperature. Sarno was absolutely radiant in her gorgeous dress and, as the sun set, I got a little misty eyed watching her exchange vows with Tyler. The ceremony was so unique and the readings were so thoughtful and just reflected the couple perfectly. After the touching ceremony, we sampled plenty of delicious food and danced our butts off... it was an amazing evening!
