Far above Cayuga's waters...

Spike and I traveled to Central New York for a wedding a few weekends ago. Not many people are as excited to go to Central New York as I was (Spike included). But for me it was a return to a place I had lived for four years and of which I have very fond memories, my alma mater... Cornell! I hadn't been back to Ithaca since my fifth year reunion in 2007 and I was really looking forward to showing Spike all that Cornell and Ithaca have to offer. And as usual for me, it was a chance to get to eat some of the food that I so loved from my time there.

We started out by walking around campus and looking at some of the waterfalls and gorges, but it wasn't long before I heard the vegetarian bagel at Collegetown Bagels calling my name. We sat outside on the patio and I tried to savor it and make it last for as long as possible, but I just ended up devouring it and was actually tempted to get another. After a quick tour of Collegetown and a stop at Rulloff's for a drink, we drove to the Plantations and enjoyed the beautiful scenery. Soon it was time to check into the hotel and get ready for the wedding, but not without a stop at Wegman's.

Now I really did want to see my friend, LJQ, get married. And I really did want to show Spike around Cornell and Ithaca. But if someone were to say I went to Central New York mainly for the trip to Wegman's, I'm not sure how convincing I would be in denying it. I've mentioned previously how much I love going grocery shopping and I think Wegman's is the cause of that. Wegman's is an experience unlike any other and the one in Ithaca is the best. The subs are divine, the herb-baked tofu is amazing, the walk-in beer cave is fabulous... it's just my nirvana. So when we stopped quickly on Saturday afternoon before checking into the hotel, I knew it wouldn't be enough, we would have to return the next day.

The wedding was gorgeous and LJQ looked amazing. We had a great time dining and dancing and the grilled cheese and tomato soup shooters were pretty fantastic. But after a late night, the next morning I could think of nothing that would be better than downing a foot long Wegman's sub. After a trip to Buttermilk and Taughannock Falls and the Ithaca Farmer's Market, Spike and I hit Wegman's for the second time. I picked up some tofu, some beer from the Ithaca Brewery, and a sub that weighed about seven pounds. Unfortunately we had to hit the road right after Wegman's and so I was forced to eat the sub while driving on the highway. It wasn't any less enjoyable with oil running down my arm and pickles falling in my lap... it may have been even better... but I'm already thinking of when I can get another one. I've heard a Wegman's might be opening in Northborough, MA. It's not close, but it's a lot closer than Central New York!
