Springy Thingies

We hosted 15 people for Easter... 15!  Well, that counts me and Spike, so I guess we actually only hosted 13.  But still!  That's a lot of people for a house with only five chairs, one of which is broken.  The weekend began with Easter egg dyeing, featuring my usual rainbow dyed egg, and a scary close up of my face.
We spent most of the day on Saturday cleaning the house and getting ready for guests.  I made quiches and carrot cake and a gorgeous centerpiece... though I'm not quite sure why I waited until after the cleaning to plant tulips and daffodils in dirt in the middle of our kitchen.
Easter Sunday began with me waking up to a candy arrow leading to a trail of candy around the first floor of the house.  My treasure hunt for Spike was not as kind and led him down to the basement, back up to the second floor, only to send him back down to the basement again.
Our guests arrived at noon and we gorged ourselves on salads, quiches, potatoes, ham, kielbasa, and of course, chocolate.  The exercise I got from hiding eggs for the kids' Easter egg hunt was definitely needed.
After Easter weekend came Charter Society Weekend, which involved me working the entire weekend.  The Charter Society is the group of donors that have given over a million dollars to MIT, so it was obviously very swanky.  It involved a lunch in Barker Library at MIT....
... as well as dinner in the Boston Public Library.  I had been to the BPL this past summer for a wedding and it was absolutely gorgeous.  However, I had never seen Bates Hall, where the Charter Society dinner was held.  It was stunning and, based on the rave reviews we've received, I think the guests were impressed.
They may have also been impressed with my complete and total professionalism.
As with the last time I had to work all weekend, Spike and I did manage to squeeze some fun in.  Once I got back from the brunch I worked on Sunday, we took a hike in the woods near our house.  The wind was whipping through the trees and it made for a kind of spooky walk, but it was a great time to unwind and be outside after a busy weekend!
