This fall seems to have flown by. Last I knew it was September and I was was all excited that the leaves were changing. I was thrilled to be going apple picking, eating cider doughnuts, and baking apple cakes. Now the leaves and the apples are long gone, the cider doughnuts have faded into a distant memory, and pumpkin roll has replaced my beloved apple cake. Not that I'm complaining. Pumpkin roll is just one of the yummy things I've been eating this fall!
We had our usual Head of the Charles gathering to celebrate the regatta this year. I gave up on the boat-themed foods and decided

to make breakfast sandwiches and pumpkin chocolate chip muffins. They were both completely delicious and I even tricked some of the guests into eating the veggie sausage that was on the sandwiches! Once down by the river, there were tons of free samples as usual, but I also tried kettle corn for the first time. It was amazing! The combination of the sweet and the salty was just so good!
We also had our annual orange and black-themed dinner and

scary movie night on Halloween Eve Eve. Our appetizers consisted of pumpernickel pretzels dipped in jalapeno cheddar pub cheese, as well as roasted pumpkin seeds (I know they're not black, but they're kind of light orange and they come from the orangest of foods). For dinner, we ate Penne-wise Pumpkin Pasta with dark rye breadsticks. Everything was pretty delicious, if I do say so myself.
And tomorrow is Thanksgiving... the most gluttonous holiday of the year! Spike and I are lucky enough to be feasting not once, but twice this year. Tomorrow we'll travel to Spike's family friend's house in Boston and Friday we'll make the trek to the homeland for another Thanksgiving at my mom's. I only have to make an appetizer for tomorrow, but Friday I'm in charge of mashed potatoes. This is a pretty big responsibility for me,
given how I feel about mashed potatoes. I will endeavor to make the most delicious potatoes on the planet and then I'll try to save some for everyone else!

I have failed you, both as an older sister and as a fellow human being.
