I'm going to Maine tomorrow and I'm pretty excited about it. I've been a few times before, but mostly to the southern part of the state. We took a family trip to Acadia and Bar Harbor when I was younger. Then I was invited to stay at a camp on a lake in Maine when I was in college. Since moving to Boston, I've been a few more times, but mostly to Ogunquit and the surrounding areas. In fact, I just went the weekend before last for some quality beach time. It sure is gorgeous on the rocky coast... I love this lighthouse:

But tomorrow I'm going to Moosehead Lake, in the wilds of Maine. Spike and his family have been going to Moosehead since he was a little boy. I've often heard him tell stories of the vast expanses of nature; the smell of the clean, fresh air; the wild, untamed forests; the large quantities of moose; and I can't wait to experience it for myself. I never really realized just how far away Moosehead is. I finally looked at it on a map and was surprised to find that it's actually above Montreal... a five hour ride!

So I'm preparing for the long road trip the same way I prepare for most road trips... by making sure I have large quantities of food at my disposal. Spike and I were put in charge of sweets for our trip, so sweets we shall have. I started out by making
Muddy Buddies, a Chex Mix recipe with chocolate and peanut butter. Then I made Brownie Bites, some with
strawberries and some with
candy. Finally, I made some
Oatmeal Craisin Cookies, since I figured we needed something healthy.
Now, not only am I excited about spending a weekend in the wilds of Maine, I'm also pretty excited about the mass quantities of sweets I plan on consuming. I just hope the moose don't get them first.
