Climb Every Mountain
I finally climbed Mt. Monadnock this past weekend! I've been meaning to hike the "most climbed mountain in the world" since I moved to Boston eight long years ago. I couldn't get my act together or butt in gear until Saturday, when the forecast called for temps in the 70s and clear, sunny skies. It was worth the wait!
I think I was a little too excited during the first half of the hike, where I charged up the rocky trail at a breakneck pace. My hiking buddy, Jess, got a lot frustrated with my climbing and was most likely cursing my name. But once we cleared the tree line, I couldn't help stopping on a regular basis to check out the views. The skies were so clear, you could see so far... it was just gorgeous!
The gorgeous day brought out a ton of other hikers, but Jess and I were able to avoid most of them by starting early. On the way back down though, we saw a LOT of people... barefoot hikers, running hikers, grandma hikers, you name it! I'm glad we got to the summit before most of them did, but at times it felt like we were being chased down the mountain.
But overall, it was a great day and I'm already looking forward to my next hike... hopefully I won't wait eight more years!
