April Flowers

I've had a pretty busy April... besides a momentous birthday marking the last year in my third decade of life, I attended my first Red Sox Opening Day, hosted Easter Dinner, planned a Bachelorette Party and ran a marathon. Oh wait. That's not right. Oh yes, I drank copious amounts of alcohol while watching thousands of others run a marathon. April is no doubt the best month of the year. Yes, I'm biased due to the fact that it is the month in which I celebrate my birth, but I really believe I would feel this way regardless of my astrological sign. Spring is just so juicy and wonderful after a long winter of cold and ice. There are sunny skies, blooming flowers, chirping birds, baseball seasons opening, and marathons being run!

Lynn, The Wonderful, got tickets to the Sox Opener and I was lucky enough to be invited as her guest! We saw Ted Kennedy throw out the first pitch, heard the jet flyover, watched the Sox score some runs, and froze our butts off. It was still a great time and I would go again in a second, but I really do enjoy games in the summer when I can't see my breath.

Easter Sunday, Spike and I had his family over for dinner and it was a blast! As Spike is the most wonderful roommate a girl could ask for, he did all the cleaning and most of the cooking in preparation. We ate our faces off with a menu of ham, kielbasa, asparagus, scalloped potatoes, quiche, orzo AND tortellini salads, and deviled eggs. For dessert, the kids (and I) decorated our individual chocolate chip Easter bunnies and I'm still feeling the effects of the sugar high.

Then came my birthday! I have such a wonderful boyfriend, family, and friends. My sister came from California just for the occasion (and maybe the marathon), my mom came from New York, my aunt came from California, and my dad and his wife came from New York just to be with me! It helped that the weather was gorgeous and the flowers were blooming, but I had a great day. Lynn, The Wonderful (again), hosted a fabulous party where I learned that hangovers get worse with age... I found this to be true on Monday, as well, which was my favorite day of the year, Marathon Monday. We got up early and went to Brookline, to Rose and Aren's house, where we ate and drank and watched people run by. Lynn and Brendan made a sign advertising "Free Beer," which was a huge hit. Who knew so many people wanted to drink some beer after running 23 miles? Of course I'm sure they were scared into running again by Spike, "The Motivator," and Erin screaming their heads off.

The next weekend was Lynn's Bachelorette Party, which was a great time, but made me realize how old I am. Although I was born to dance and take every possible opportunity to do so, perhaps the scene at Denny's early bird special is more up my alley. I actually had to put earplugs in my ears because the music was so loud. It was a complete and total stroke of luck that I had them in my purse, but boy was I happy!
