California Here I Come... to eat.

Seeing as we're on the verge of the Greater Depression, I am trying to save money, be thrifty, cheap, whatever. My New Year's Resolution was to not spend as much and I think I've already failed. The problem is that I like food way too much. I like to cook and one of my favorite things is to go grocery shopping. It's no joke. Not only here in the U.S., but internationally as well. I made Spike go to the grocery store every night of our trips to London and Paris. I wanted to see the interesting foods that are sold in other countries and what I'm missing out on. Sadly, my curiosity was never quite satisfied. We had to keep going back and I will continue to do so on my next trip.

I also love to eat out and feel it's my duty to do so in order to meet up with friends, be social, and of course, eat a lot. I could look at any menu for any restaurant and automatically get hungry. This is especially interesting because I'm a vegetarian. Sometimes I think that I'm really just a vegetarian in order to limit my intake of food. If I didn't have some restrictions on my intake, I would weigh 5000 lbs. That's no joke either.

To further my point, I just took a long break from writing this post to go eat lunch. The place next door to work has an all-you-can-eat salad, soup, and bread bar. It's so wonderful that I usually have to be rolled out of there. But it doesn't stop there... I look for any excuse to go, like today, when I made up a meeting that had to be held over lunch. I freaked out when the meeting got postponed and there was the chance that I might not get to the buffet. Luckily, Lynn said we could go anyway, so I managed to stuff my face as planned.

Also, I have been taking pictures of my food for years. Ever since I was a young lass, when I first had a camera, I would photograph my food before, during, and after meals. My mother always complained about me wasting film, but culinary delight can never be seen as a waste! Actually, there are some shots of a few wonderful meals that I've made lately that I have yet to post:My friend, Sarno, just blogged about this same topic and, although I started this post with the intention of writing something completely different (basically about how I want to be a cheapskate, but can't stop spending money), I just find that I agree completely and totally with her and I just had to let it out. As you can tell by the title of the post, I meant to write about how I'm spending my hard-earned money on a trip to California, where I will consume copious amounts of Mexican food. Oh well... you get the idea.
