Spiker the Hiker

Spike hates to hike.  It's a known fact.  A veritable truth.  An absolute certainty.  But being the wonderful wife that I am, I make him do it anyway.  I compiled a list of hikes that I thought we should attempt this summer, each of which would hopefully be approved by Spike.  Each trail had to be under seven miles, feature views and a summit, and it was a plus if they were loop hikes.  We completed the first one a few weekends ago and, despite some tension in the middle of the trip when I accidentally made us climb a second mountain, we had a great time!

Mt. Major is in Alton, New Hampshire, at the southern tip of Lake Winnipesaukee.  It's under 2000 ft., but still had a wide open rock summit with gorgeous views of the lake.

As Spike hates the ascent so very much, he practically ran up the steep rock faces.

But I did get him to stop and rest at one point for a photo op.

After a completely unnecessary detour to the top of Straightback Mountain, we made the descent in no time at all.

The best part of the day was the dip we took in the lake after we finished the hike.

With such a great hike on a gorgeous day, perhaps Spike is convinced that hiking isn't so bad after all!
